‘Tis the season

by Heather on August 9, 2006

Autumn has been congested, coughing and has a continually dripping runny nose.  I thought it was a cold because of the cough even though some people have told me those are also the symptoms of teething.  When I started getting a sinus headache and my own nose started running, I figured it was because Autumn was using me as a Kleenex whenever possible and I just wound up catching whatever she has.

Last night it hit me.  Allergies.  It’s hay fever season and I can look forward to feeling like this for the next few weeks.  Last year it wasn’t so bad.  Perhaps it was the pregnancy, but I don’t remember the sinus headaches being as severe.  Maybe that was because I was too busy complaining about swollen feet and having to sleep on my side.  Once hay fever season hits I keep a good supply of Sudafed on hand and start counting down the days to the first frost.

In baby news, Autumn is so close to crawling.  She’ll be sitting and then bend over to reach for something.  If she can’t reach it, she’ll rock back and forth and I can tell she’s trying to work it out in her head what her feet should do next.  She just doesn’t get it yet.  A couple of times I’ve tried to help her out but that only resulted in her flopping on her belly and rolling over.

When she’s not trying to figure out the crawling thing, she’s busy climbing over everything and trying to pull herself up.  Last night she crawled over my legs and nearly pulled herself up to standing.  This morning she clung to the couch and tried to pull herself up that way.  Pretty soon she’ll be on the move and I’ll be screwed.

I hear ya! Squeaks is going to be a terror once she starts walking! She’s already into everything, so I can’t imagine how it’s going to be in a few months…

By the way, I was just looking through your archives and I just noticed how close in age our kiddos are — Squeaks was born November 12th! Only a 3 day gap!

Actually, Squeaks would be four days older than Autumn. I went in to be induced on November 15th but she wasn’t born until the next day. She was due on the 6th but found her accomodations too comfortable and had to be evicted.

It’s funny though, but I’m constantly getting Autumn’s birthday wrong. Just yesterday I was filling out paperwork for my daycare provider and wrote 11-15 for her birtday. And I’m the mom!

I am also terrified of the coming crawling and walking phenomenon. I don’t even know how I’m going to handle it. Sadly and embarrasingly, I’m almost wishing that he’ll be late in crawling and walking. That is so SICK of me! I’m glad I’m not the only one who isn’t all smiles and thrilled about it.
