Stage one is complete:
Here we have the disembodied head of Elmo, cherry chip version. I hope to get him partially frosted tonight and finish up the job tomorrow. I want him to be a total surprise to Autumn. I’m actually happy with how the cake turned out. No lumps, bumps or cracks. I guess you can actually get good results by following directions. I’ll have to remember that.
Unfortunately this will not be the only cake we have Friday night. The intimate soirĂ©e we had originally planned with nine people has been fully upgraded to a shindig with 22 people in attendance. How did this happen, you say? It would seem Nathan’s brother Roman and the family will be traveling to South Carolina and will not be home for Thanksgiving. They wanted to see Autumn before then, so Nathan invited them to come over on Friday with the twins (without asking me, I might add). Not wanting to leave Dirk and Lisa and their kids out, they were invited also (again, wasn’t consulted here). After that I thought, well if all of Nathan’s family are going to be here then my side can’t be left out, so my brother and my grandmothers have been invited as well.
Wouldn’t you know they can all come. They’ll all be here because they just love that little girl so much. That’s great, but I was hoping for small. I wasn’t going to do a party. I don’t have nearly enough Elmo party hats and Oscar the Grouch cups for everyone.
I love my family, but we did big last year and that was enough for me.
Oh yeah, this isn’t really about me, is it?
So I guess we’re off to Costco today to order one of their yummy cakes because Elmo cannot possibly feed us all.

That cake is already adorable! I guess I should try my hand at being domestic sometime…
Squeaks’ party turned out with about the same amount of people. We all survived, so I know you will too. Just pop some tylenol first.
