Most nights when we come home from work, we tend to turn the TV on to Nickelodeon and watch from “Spongebob” all the way to “iCarly”. This is an improvement from the days when Autumn was an infant and I’d put her through marathon sessions of “Law and Order” on TNT. I can clearly remember the days when I felt guilty for subjecting her to all that murder and drama even though I knew she could only see as far as her toes. As far as she knew then, Jack McCoy and Lennie Brico were Spongebob and Patrick.
Lately we’ve heard some startling language coming from the lass and thought it might be a good idea to limit her TV. Last weekend Nathan moved our smaller TV back into our bedroom and I’m happy to say we’ve all cut down on our TV watching. Nathan and I have been so used to not having a TV in the bedroom that we haven’t gotten back into the habit of watching it before we fall asleep.
Last night was the best TV free night so far. The three of us sat around the table and enjoyed a game of “Don’t Spill The Beans.” It’s Autumn’s favorite and she loves to scream whenever the pot tips and spills the beans onto the table. It was so much more fun than zoning out in front of the television.
I think tonight we’ll unload “Don’t Break The Ice” and she how she wields that little hammer.

Playing board games during dinner is one of our favorite things to do. The money in our game of “Life” provides a recap of many of our meals for the past few years. We’re particularly attached to a game called “Sorry Card Revenge”; check it out when your daughter’s about six. I can already see that we’ve developed some warm and lasting memories thanks to our game nights.

Game nights are so fun! What great memories you are making for your daughter. It really is so much fun to spend time together as a family doing something that builds your relationships. It will be even more fun as she gets older!
